Vol. 410 No. 4

Written Answers. - EC Farm Grants.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

29 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the details of any derogations granted to the Irish Government by the European Community in 1990 for the beef premium scheme and suckler cow scheme; and if he has satisfied himself that implementation of the derogations is within the boundaries allowed.

No derogation was granted by the European Community in 1990 or 1991 to the Irish Government in respect of the special beef premium or suckler cow premium schemes.

The EC Commission, however, by letter of 25 October 1990 and 21 June 1991 has given interpretations of the EC Regulations governing the special beef premium scheme which allowed payment to be made in certain cases which I had raised with the Commission. I am fully satisfied that the interpretations in question are in accordance with the EC Regulations governing that scheme.
