Vol. 411 No. 5

Written Answers. - Litter Legislation.

Paul Bradford

Question:

64 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment if he has had any reports from local authorities on the incidence of litter during 1991; and if he will be reviewing legislation in this area.

Local authorities submit annual returns to my Department on the implementation of the Litter Act, 1982; the returns for 1990 are the latest available. No specific reports on the incidence of litter during 1991 have been received in my Department from local authorities. Proposals for a comprehensive Bill on waste are currently being prepared in my Department. In addition, I intend to support and complement the anti-litter campaigns of the local authorities by a mixed media campaign and by producing posters, videos, etc. suitable for schools.
