Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant Application.

Richard Bruton

Question:

127 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the reason the appeal of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 for qualification for a higher education grant, which was based on changed financial circumstances, was refused; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Dublin Corporation are the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grants scheme in this case.

It is understood that a grant application was submitted in this case to Dublin Corporation in August 1990 and was subsequently withdrawn in September 1990, and that in August 1991 the person in question approached Dublin Corporation with documentary evidence regarding changes in income circumstances. The present position is that Dublin Corporation have recently written to my Department requesting clarification as to how the relevant details should be treated under the terms of the scheme, and that matter is currently under consideration.

I will keep the Deputy informed of the outcome of the investigation.
