Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Replacement Bridge.

Brendan McGahon

Question:

30 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the recent accident at Ballymascanlon, County Louth in which four people were killed, he will make money available to Louth County Council in 1992 to provide for the investigation and design of a replacement bridge.

As the bridge in question is located on a regional road, responsibility for its replacement rests with Louth County Council. The cost would fall to be met from local resources, supplemented by the discretionary grant provided by my Department. The discretionary grant allocated to the council in 1991 amounted to £1.027 million and the allocation for 1992 will be considered when the overall road grant provision for that year has been determined.
