Vol. 413 No. 6

Written Answers. - Uninsured Vehicles.

Ivor Callely

Question:

101 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give consideration to giving the Garda Síochána additional powers to stop uninsured motor vehicles being driven on public roads, particularly where the driver of the vehicle has failed to produce any evidence of insurance cover and in the case where a court case is pending and the driver is blatantly abusing the law; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Proposals for amendments of the Road Traffic Acts, including proposals to strengthen the powers of the gardaí to deal with uninsured driving, are being finalised in my Department.
