Vol. 413 No. 7

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowance.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

68 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Health if, in the case where a person is refused a disabled person's maintenance allowance, they are notified in the letter of refusal of their right to appeal; and, if not, the reason.

A person whose application for a disabled person's maintenance allowance is refused is notified by the health board of the reasons for the refusal. If his/her circumstances change, the health board will review the situation.

I am at present considering the need for the introduction of a standard appeals system for disabled person's maintenance allowance applications.
