Vol. 414 No. 9

Written Answers. - Roscrea (Tipperary) Bypass.

Michael Lowry

Question:

101 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for the Environment the present status of the Roscrea bypass proposal; if he will confirm sanction of this vital scheme; if he will outline the timescale involved for completion; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Phase I of this scheme was completed and opened to traffic early in January 1988. Design work on Phase II is completed and a compulsory purchase order in respect of lands required for the scheme was confirmed in May 1988. I understand that Tipperary (NR) County Council are now preparing contract documents for the project and are expected to submit them to my Department for approval shortly. The scheme is included in the tentative list of major improvement projects on national primary roads planned to commence and/or be completed in the period 1989 to 1993, with the construction period listed as 1992-1993.
