Question:

74 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Education whether there are any guidelines for expenditure of the recent additional moneys allocated to Dublin Zoo; if so, if he will give details of these; if any of the recommendations of the report on Dublin Zoo are included in any such guidelines; whether it is his intention to allocate any further sums to Dublin Zoo this year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The additional moneys referred to by the Deputy were paid to the Dublin Zoo towards its current deficit and towards the deficits that will arise in the early months of this year when attendances are expected to be low.

The question of allocating further funds to the zoo this year will be a matter for decision by the Government if the question arises.
