Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fishery Protection.

Madeleine Taylor-Quinn

Question:

74 Mrs. Taylor-Quinn asked the Minister for Defence the steps which are being taken to further augment the fishery protection capacity of the Defence Forces as promised in the review of the Programme for Government in 1991.

In accordance with an EC approved programme a contract was placed on 3 April 1991 for the purchase of two Casa CN 235 maritime patrol aircraft for delivery in 1994 for use in the fishery surveillance role. While awaiting delivery of these aircraft an existing Casa CN 235 aircraft was purchased and entered service in the maritime fisheries patrol role in August 1991. Since late 1991, a Dauphin helicopter has operated from LE Eithne on fisheries surveillance activities.
