Vol. 416 No. 3

Written Answers. - Meeting with British Prime Minister.

Tony Gregory

Question:

47 Mr. Gregory asked the Taoiseach if, at his meeting with the British Prime Minister, he will raise, (1) the collusion between British military intelligence and Loyalist paramilitaries as revealed in the Brian Nelson trial, (2) the excessive use of lethal force by the British army and (3) the recent decision not to prosecute the undercover soldiers who killed three men at the Falls Road bookies in Belfast in January 1990.

The issues referred to by the Deputy are of a kind which are normally raised by the Minister for Foreign Affairs at meetings of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference. For instance, the use of lethal force and the Brian Nelson case were raised by the Irish side at the most recent conference meeting on 28 January last and there was agreement that the conference would discuss the issues which arise when that case had ended. The British Government are, therefore, fully aware of our concerns.
