80 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties facing the State-owned Salmon Research Agency at Fuarace, Newport, County Mayo; in view of the numbers employed there and the valuable research being carried on, if he will ensure the continued future of this research facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the Salmon Research Agency is running into funding difficulties due to a decline in its income from own resources.

The agency has been directed to review all options to deal with the situation. In this regard I expect to receive shortly a comprehensive submission from the board of management. This submission will be assessed as a matter of urgency.
