Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - Capital Programme for Schools.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

251 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the extent to which the 1992 second level school capital programme has been exhausted; if it is intended to review any or all of the commitments made by his predecessor; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Expenditure is incurred each year under the post-primary capital allocation on small capital works including prefabricated accommodation and emergencies, on equipment and resource grants to schools, on contractual commitments from ongoing major projects and on new major projects proceeding to contract or at various stages of planning.

Within the limits of the overall allocation, certain major projects for which tenders had been received have been approved so that construction may commence in 1992 and it is my intention that these projects should proceed.

Consideration will be given to the advancement of additional projects within the overall allocation as part of the regular monitoring of commitments and cash flow requirements during the course of the year.
