Vol. 416 No. 7

Written Answers. - Land Annuities.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

51 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact many farmers who were allocated land by the Land Commission in the 1970s and early 1980s are now experiencing severe difficulties in paying their annuities; if he will publish a report commissioned by his Department on this problem; if he intends to make proposals to deal with this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received the report of the working party on land annuity arrears and have asked my Department and the Department of Finance to seek to arrive at a solution to the problem of those arrears on the basis of the recommendations set out in that report. As soon as specific proposals are agreed, I will make a full statement on the matter.
