Vol. 416 No. 7

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

Liam Kavanagh

Question:

55 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will provide an estimate of the highest total payment a farmer with 50 acres inside the disadvantaged areas scheme will receive under the EC-CAP proposals with, (a) the maximum allowable stocking rate of 40 livestock units in cattle and (b) the maximum number of suckler cows.

At the two livestock units per hectare limit now suggested in the Common Agricultural Policy reform proposals, the hypothetical farmer with 50 acres would receive at most £3,480 under the special beef premium scheme in 1995 or £2,636 under the suckler cow premium scheme in 1995.
