Vol. 416 No. 7

Written Answers. - Duleek (Meath) Garda Strength.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

80 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Justice if he will allocate five gardaí and one sergeant to Duleek, County Meath as recommended in 1977 by Commissioner Garvey, in order to ensure that the area which is under the supervision of the Duleek station will be adequately covered and people's property will be protected and also in view of the increase in population.

The Garda authorities inform me that the Duleek area is well served by the sergeant and three gardaí at the local station, supported by mobile units based at Navan and Drogheda. There are no plans to assign additional gardaí to Duleek but the policing needs of the area are being kept under review. In this regard, the Garda authorities report that crime figures for Duleek in recent years show a significant downward trend.
