Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

142 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education if he has received an application from an organisation (details supplied) in County Meath for an allocation of £60,000 from the national lottery funds so that it can employ a full-time development officer to enable the teams to enter for the national league and championship games; when a decision will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application has been received on behalf of the organisation in question for financial assistance towards the cost of employing a development officer to promote the sport at national level.

The position is that, because of constraints on the funding for sport in 1992, it will not be possible to award grant-aid to the association for this purpose in the current year.

The matter will be kept under review and the application will again be considered as the financial provision permits.

The Minister of State at my Department has met a deputation from the association at which this matter was discussed.
