Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Local Improvement Scheme Grant Criterion.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

228 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the criterion laid down for numbers of users to qualify for a grant for a road under the local improvement scheme as operated by county councils; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

For a project to be deemed eligible for grant assistance under the local improvement scheme it must benefit two or more parcels of land owned or occupied by different persons, or serve the public, or, in relation to rights of turbary, serve two or more persons entitled to such rights. A project may be extended to include a spur road or terminal section serving only one user, if the spur road or terminal section forms an integral part of the whole road and the cost of including it is not disproportionate to the cost of the road as a whole.
