251 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment the cost of the investment necessary to have all waterways free of pollution by 1996.
No estimate has been made by my Department in relation to the particular time-frame mentioned in the question. The Government's Environment Action Programme does however set out a range of measures necessary to deal with water quality problems into the coming decade; these include investment proposals, and improved controls and institutional arrangements, such as the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency.
