Vol. 419 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kilmore Harbour (Wexford).

Ivan Yates

Question:

45 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline the procedure involved for upgrading of Kilmore Harbour in County Wexford to ownership by his Department, as is the case with other substantial fishing ports, such as Howth, Killybegs and Castletownbere; if he will further outline whether finance for the development of the East Pier of this harbour is under consideration by his Department in view of his recent visit to it; and if he will make a statement on the future development of this fishing port.

Designation of a harbour as a Fishery Harbour Centre would necessitate the enactment of appropriate primary legislation and require an order to be made pursuant to that legislation.

Development work at Kilmore Quay, one element of which is envisaged to be the widening of the East Pier, is proposed in my Department's fishery harbour development programme. The necessary site investigation is to resume this week. The results of this investigation will form the basis for the preparation of detailed plans for the proposed development. This will be incorporated into the review and update of the fishery harbour development programme for the period 1992 — 1996 which I am at present having drawn up.
