Vol. 419 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

56 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education when he intends to pay the £4.6 million which Bus Éireann contend is due from his Department in relation to school transport services over a three-year period, in view of the effect of this short-fall in respect of the non-payment of the Labour Court award which gave rise to the recent industrial action in Bus Éireann, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Costs incurred by Bus Éireann in operating the school transport scheme are funded through my Department on an ongoing basis on the basis of financial allocations made annually by the Government.

The question of the application of pay awards to employees of Bus Éireann in the operation of its services is a matter for the company itself.
