Vol. 419 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Mayo School.

Enda Kenny

Question:

59 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to retain the present complement of a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The school in question had a valid enrolment of 25 pupils on 30 September 1991 which under the current staffing schedule warrants a staff of Principal only for the 1992-93 school year. The assistant in the school at present has been placed on the Tuam Diocesan panel for redeployment.
The only exception to this arrangement provided for in the agreement is in the case of the maximum class size guidelines set out by my Department being breached. The position in this school can be looked at by my Department in September 1992 in this regard.
