72 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make special funding available for the development of beaches that have blue flag potential; if his attention has been drawn to the number of potential further blue flag beaches in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Special grants totalling £1.5 million were made available to local authorities for environmental improvement works at selected major beaches in 1989 and 1990. There is no provision in my Department's Vote for 1992 for making further grants under this scheme. It is, of course, open to local authorities to carry out amenity and environmental improvement works at beaches using their own resources.
