Vol. 419 No. 7

Written Answers. - Student Assessment.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

50 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education if he will outline his Department's assessment of the number of students to enter third level education in each of the next ten years in the (1) university sector, (2) RTC sector, (3) Dublin Institute of Technology sector and (4) region of origin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Detailed sectoral and regional projections of the number of entrants to third-level education as requested by the Deputy are not available.

Projections made by my Department indicate that the number of entrants to full-time third-level education in the Higher Education Authority sector will increase from 12,000 approximately in 1991-92 to 15,000 by the end of the decade.

Entrants to the non-sector are projected to increase from 14,000 approximately to 17,000 during the same period.
