Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

92 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) who lives 16.8 miles, verified by the Garda, from Cork Regional Technical College has been refused the full tuition fees, under the higher education grant scheme 1991, to which she is entitled as she lives more than 15 miles from the college, has to walk half a mile to catch a bus to Cork and then take another bus from Cork city to the regional technical college; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Cork County Council is the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the Higher Education Grants Scheme in this case.

It is understood from Cork County Council that the person in question has been awarded the maximum lecture fee grant and the maximum maintenance grant (adjacent rate) payable in accordance with the terms of the 1991 scheme.

I would refer the Deputy to the Council for any further information he may require in this matter.
