Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - Kill (Kildare) National School.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

93 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education if the inquiry into finances at Kill national school is completed; if so, if he will outline the outcome; if not, if he will outline when it is expected to be completed; if he will further outline the effect the admissions made by the principal will have on the continued employment of the principal which gave rise to payments of £7,879.38 to the then school manager; and if he will give details of the amount of moneys, if any, paid to FÁS or to the management board of Kill national school as a result of the Department's inquiry.

The investigation of the finances at Kill national school has been completed. My Department is satisfied that the expenditure by the school was in accordance with the provisions of the relevant grant schemes under which the School was in receipt of moneys from my Department.

The position regarding the employment of the caretaker at Kill N.S., is that this is a matter for FÁS who pay the grant in this regard and conduct audits of their own finances. In regard to monies obtained through fund-raising, I understand that while this is a matter outside my Department's power of audit, it was investigated by a Sub-Committee of the Board and that there was no question of moneys having been misappropriated.
