Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - Roscommon Lighting.

John Connor

Question:

129 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the funds which will be made available to Roscommon County Council in the current year to upgrade public lighting for national routes passing through towns and villages in the county; if he will recommend to the local authority that, in the event of insufficient funding to complete upgrading this year, villages on the national routes with very substandard lighting, such as Frenchpark, Cloonfad, Ballinagare, Tarmonbarry and Tulsk, be identified for improvement in 1992.

A grant allocation of £20,000 has been made to Roscommon County Council in 1992 to finance an extension of traffic route lighting on national secondary road N60 at Castlerea. In addition, a programme for the systematic replacement of obsolete lanterns and fittings on national roads is being implemented and this will be applied to Castlerea, Ballinlough, Roscommon town and Ballyleague in 1992.
