Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

John Connor

Question:

130 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the unjustifiable delay in giving sanction to Rooskey/Tarmonbarry group water scheme in County Roscommon which is designed to service 180 households in its designated area; and if he will outline the actions, if any, he intends to take to ensure that this scheme is sanctioned for a grant now.

This scheme, which is designed to serve up to 180 households at an estimated cost of £335,000, was approved by Roscommon County Council in May 1991. Based on the most up to date information from the group, fewer than 60 households have joined the scheme giving a total grant income of £52,300 to the group. The scheme would not appear economically viable on present membership.

Question:

131 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a group water scheme for the Drumiwardley area, Ruskey, County Roscommon, with 110 householders within its catchment is with his Department for the past several years awaiting sanctions for grant and release to contract; and if he will undertake to have this scheme sanctioned to commence work before the end of this summer.

This scheme, which is designed to serve up to 110 households at an estimated cost of £183,000, was approved by Roscommon County Council in May 1991. Only 42 households have joined so far and the scheme would not appear economicaly viable on present membership.
