Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - Road Signs.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

132 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the precautions which can be taken to warn continental tourists to drive on the left-hand side of the road in Ireland, and whether signs to this effect can be erected by local authorities.

Signs warning tourists to drive on the left can most usefully be provided at points of entry, which are under the control of harbour and airport authorities. I understand that such signs, in English, French and German, either have been, or are being, provided at the main airports and at the roll-on/roll-off terminals.

Local authorities may, with the consent of the Garda Commissioner, provide information signs on public roads.
