Vol. 420 No. 3

Written Answers. - Laois Community School.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

90 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the widespread disappointment, anxiety and concern in the town of Mountmullen, County Laois, in the light of a recent announcement that funds were not available for works to the community school premises in 1991 and in view of the fact that renovations have been sought since 1981, he will now agree to meet a delegation of parents, teachers and board of management to discuss the position.

Since I became Minister for Education I have received numerous requests for deputations with regard to school building projects. Because I have extensive commitments relating to other Department work, I would be in a position to meet only a very limited number of these in any given week.

However, the Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Liam Aylward, recently met representatives of the school and he has reported back to me on the matter.

My Department is currently examining the tenders for this project and I will keep the Deputy informed of any developments.
