Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cork Radiotherapy Procedures.

Bernard Allen

Question:

146 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will outline his views on a recent statement made by a person (details supplied) in Cork that an upgrading of radiotherapy procedures is being held up because the advertising of a mould room technicians post has been delayed and that such prevarication could scuttle the funding and the facilities in the unit.

My Department has within the last few days received a prioritised listing from the Southern Health Board regarding proposals for the permanent filling of various posts including that of mould room technician at Cork Regional Hospital. As with all such proposals, and particularly given that the post in question is a new one, my Department's consideration must necessarily have regard to the relative level of importance afforded it by the board and the availability of sufficient funds to meet the additional costs involved. Discussions are on-going with the Southern Health Board on the various implications of the proposed appointment.
