139 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in making progress on the Churchtown national school building project, Athy, County Kildare; if he will outline the precise schedule and timetable for the work; when the school will be completed; if this will be in time for the 1993 school year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

140 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education when a contract will be placed for work on a new national school at Churchtown, Athy, County Kildare, in view of the fact that (a) tenders for the project were invited by his Department in December 1990 and (b) in February 1992 his immediate predecessor included the school in the Government's list of projects to go to tender this year; if he will confirm that work on the project will commence this year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

141 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if, having regard to the availability of the local contribution, he will outline when contracts will be signed in respect of the Churchtown national school, Athy, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 139, 140 and 141 together.

Tenders have been received and examined for the replacement school at Churchtown, County Kildare. It is my intention to arrange for the collection of the local contribution shortly. It is intended to place the contract as soon as possible having due regard to financial commitments for other capital works in the primary school buildings area. Because of the many factors outside my control, it is not possible to say, at this stage, when building works will commence, or when the projects will be completed.
