Question:

72 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if for each of the years the ERASMUS programme has operated he will give details of (a) the number of Irish students who participated in colleges abroad, (b) the number of students from other EC states who participated in Irish colleges/universities and (c) the countries of origin of the overseas EC students.

The ERASMUS programme, which is funded by the European Commission, is designed to encourage students in third level institutions to pursue their studies in another member state of the Community for up to one year. The programme has been in existence since the academic year 1987-88.

The members of Irish students going abroad under the ERASMUS programme are as follows:
