Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - HIV/AIDS Sufferers.

Edward Nealon

Question:

171 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if he will outline (a) the number of known HIV positive sufferers there are in the North Western Health Board area and (b) the number of known sufferers of full blown AIDS in the North Western Health Board area.

The current reporting system in respect of the incidence of AIDS/HIV does not capture data on a county basis. The National AIDS Strategy Committee in an interim report on HIV/AIDS surveillance have recommended that the national reporting system should provide data on county basis without prejudice to the confidentiality of individual cases. This recommendation is being implemented which will now permit a health board breakdown of HIV/AIDS cases.
