Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Review.

Bernard Allen

Question:

143 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a recent report that it is proposed that general practitioners should screen consultants' outpatients lists to ensure that patients were not being recalled unnecessarily.

My Department has made no such proposals. As part of the current GMS review discussions, the management side has put forward a number of proposals which would facilitate greater liaison between general practitioners, hospitals and the rest of the health services. As discussions on these proposals have not yet been finalised, it would not be appropriate for me to elaborate any further on them at this stage.
