Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Environmental Awareness Measures.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

38 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment the measures which are funded by his Department's allocation for environmental awareness measures; the programmes, if any, which are currently being undertaken; and the contribution, if any, which is made to such programmes by non-Governmental agencies.

Most of the provision in the Environment Vote for environmental awareness is allocated to award schemes, including the Environment Awareness Awards to Non-Governmental Organisations, the Local Authority Environmental Awards and the Better Environment Awards for Industry. The balance of the provision is used to provide grant assistance to projects of an environmental awareness nature carried out by community and voluntary groups.

Further expenditures relevant to environmental awareness are financed from the Vote provisions for environmental promotion and for ENFO. Many of the latter's activities involve cooperation with non-governmental agencies.
