Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Listowel (County Kerry) New Library.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

42 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment when he will allow the proposed new library for Listowel, County Kerry to go to tender.

The detailed sketch/design and cost plan documentation submitted to my Department by Kerry County Council on 4 June 1992 have been considered in conjunction with An Chomhairle Leabharlanna. This latest submission from the council indicates that there has been a significant increase in both the size and cost of the proposal since the issue of approval in principle on 24 May, 1991. My Department has recently asked the council to consider how costs can best be reduced without major alterations in the design and, on receipt of the council's response, the matter will be considered further.
