Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - Job Sharing for Teachers.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

80 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if he intends to introduce job sharing for teachers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have drawn up a draft pilot job-sharing scheme for post-primary teachers. The draft scheme was fowarded to the managerial bodies and the teacher unions in July last for their views. Discussions on the draft scheme are on-going.

I am hopeful that the draft scheme will be finalised in time to enable job-sharing to be introduced in a limited number of schools on a pilot basis in the 1993-94 school year.

The introduction of a job-sharing scheme for primary teachers has been raised with my Department. The primary school situation is more complex but I am having the matter studied to see if a job sharing scheme for primary teachers may be feasible also.
