Vol. 424 No. 9

Written Answers. - Headage Payments.

Ivan Yates

Question:

150 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the proposals, if any, he has to increase the level of headage payments in 1993.

Headage payment rates under the disadvantaged areas schemes were increased substantially this year. A decision has yet to be taken on the payment rates for 1993.

Following the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy the rate of payment on suckler cows under the suckler cow premium scheme will increase next year to £79.09 from the present rate of £68.54 and the rate of payment on male animals under the special beef premium scheme will increase from £35.15 to £52.73 per animal. As from 1 January 1993 special beef premium may be paid twice in an animal's lifetime — the first time at the age of ten months and the second time after it has reached 22 months. Extensification and deseasonalisation premia will also apply in particular situations.
