Vol. 424 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grants Payments.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

172 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason payment of livestock grants is delayed during the transfer of farms from father to son; and the reason these grants are not paid upon receipt of an undertaking from the solicitor in such cases, as this often causes great hardship at the time of transfer of farms.

In cases of transfer of land from father to son, my Department must satisfy itself that proposed transactions are bona fide and are concluded satisfactorily before paying livestock grants.

My Department has occasionally paid grants on foot of undertakings from Solicitors in response to cases of particular hardship. However, we have found this practice to be generally unsatisfactory.
