Vol. 426 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

100 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine the amount of money allocated to Donegal County Council in 1992 for coastal protection in the case of sea erosion.

Primary responsibility for coast protection rests with local coastal authorities.

The Department of the Marine made no allocation to Donegal County Council in 1922 for coastal protection.

However, the Department funded maintenance works in Donegal at the Rossnowlagh coastal protection scheme in 1992. The cost of these works amounted to £19,946 which is recoverable from Donegal County Council.
