Vol. 427 No. 3

Written Answers. - Energy Research Funding.

Austin Currie

Question:

31 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the amount of money allocated towards energy research; if he has satisfied himself with this allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The most recent inventory of expenditure on research and development compiled by Eolas — the Irish Science and Technology Agency, shows that a sum of IR£3.7 million was spent by the State, EC and industry in 1990, on energy related research and development and demonstration. While we would prefer to see more money spent in this area we regard this sum as satisfactory in the present economic circumstances.
