Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Education Facilities.

Ivor Callely

Question:

41 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the number of children with a disability who are being denied primary education in the Dublin area due to lack of facilities; the measures, if any, she intends to take; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I would be seriously concerned at any suggestion that children with a disability are being denied access to appropriate education facilities in the Dublin area. The needs of such children are catered for, at present, through a range of measures, from support in ordinary classrooms, through more intensive provision in special classes, to special schools which cater for more severe cases.

If the Deputy is aware of particular cases where educational provision is not being made available, and if he can furnish the relevant details, I will have the matter fully investigated.
