Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Swords (Dublin) School.

Nora Owen

Question:

42 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if she will accord priority to the replacement of Coláiste Choilm Christian Brothers School, Swords, County Dublin, as this is a 25 year old pre-fab structure which is in a bad state of repair and it is a waste of money to continue repairing it.

Ray Burke

Question:

259 Mr. R. Burke asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the severe physical problems of Coláiste Choilm in Swords, County Dublin; the plans, if any, she has to improve the situation in the short term; and her views on whether after 25 years of service to the people of Swords and North County Dublin, Coláiste Choilm can be provided with permanent buildings as a matter of priority.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 259 together.

I am fully aware of the accommodation situation at Coláiste Choilm, Swords, and I met recently with a deputation comprising local representatives of Coláiste Choilm who discussed this issue with me.

I have now agreed that planning of a replacement school may be initiated and have instructed officials of my Department's planning and building unit to commence this process.
