Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - EC Quotas.

Ivan Yates

Question:

292 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if any provisions can, or will, be made for cases of animal depopulation due to diseases whereby, but for this depopulation, they would be considered for quotas such as for cereal production; and if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford in such circumstances will be eligible to grow any cereals in 1993 with eligibility for compensation.

Under the new EC support regime for arable producers individual quotas do not apply in the case of cereals sown for the 1993 harvest. However, in order to be eligible for aid, cereals must not be grown on land which was in permanent pasture during the five year period from 1 January 1987 to 31 December 1991. There is no provision for derogation from this requirement.
