Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Free Beef Scheme.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

317 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the up to date position regarding the free beef scheme for 1993.

This year some 575 tonnes of canned corned beef and stewed beefsteak is being made available from intervention stocks for distribution under the EC's free beef scheme.

My Department is currently arranging for the canning of this product. I expect that the canned product will be handed over to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as and from 13 April 1993. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will then distribute this product at its various depots throughout the country to those qualifying under the EC free food scheme as soon as possible thereafter.
