Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cardiac Operations Waiting List.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

423 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the extent, if any, to which he expects the waiting period of cardiac patients to be reduced with particular reference to hip and by-pass operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy is aware, £20 million will be provided in 1993 for a major action programme to reduce hospital in-patient waiting lists. Cardiac surgery will be a priority in the allocation of funds for this major action programme and I will be announcing my decision in this matter in the coming weeks.
