Vol. 428 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Boards of Management Composition.

John Bruton

Question:

96 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education her views on the recommendation of the Second Commission on the Status of Women that she should require 50 per cent or as near as possible to this of patrons nominees to school boards or management to be women.

In the recent Green Paper on Education there are proposals which address the issue of a balanced representation and for changes in the structure of school boards of management. These changes include a proposal that there would be a balanced representation of the sexes on boards of management, with a specified minimum representation from each sex. I am at present considering responses to the proposals outlined in the Green Paper.
