Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ros a' Mhíl (Galway) Harbour.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

35 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give details of all works to be undertaken at Ros a' Mhíl harbour in 1993; the estimated cost of these works; and the source of funding.

During 1993 an estimated £1.2 million will be expended on the completion of a major development at Rossaveel Harbour. Work commenced in 1989 on a major scheme costing £6 million and included: construction of a new pier, dredging of the harbour area, provision of an auction hall and provision of ancillary services.

Work in the current year will see the completion of the new pier and commencement of work on the auction hall. It is projected that the development will be completed by March 1994. Funding for this work is being provided by the State as part of the capital provision for developments at fishery harbours. European regional development funding (ERDF) funding amounting to 50 per cent of expenditure is provided for this project under the terms of the operational programme for rural development.
