Vol. 429 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Office Operations.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

69 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties being encountered by farmers in many areas of the country with the level and efficiency of service provided by his Department's local offices; if he has any proposals to improve the quality of the service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that my Department's local offices have provided an excellent service to farmers in very difficult circumstances in recent years. Nevertheless, in view of the additional work load which will result from Common Agricultural Policy reform measures and in other areas, my Department is carrying out a review of local office operations to ensure that the optimum service will continue to be provided to the farming community.
