Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Environmental Projects.

Peter Barry

Question:

150 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if a publicity campaign is planned to make people aware that EC funding is available for organisations concerned with preventing environmental problems in this country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Wexford): I take it that the question refers to LIFE, an EC financial instrument which provides funding towards the development and the implementation of Community environmental policy by the financing of demonstration projects. The latest date for the receipt of proposals under LIFE (1993) was 31 March 1993.

This source of funds was advertised very broadly. An advertisement by the Department of the Environment in relation to LIFE appeared in the daily newspapers on 16 February, 1993 and also in magazines. This advertisement drew particular attention to an information pack available from the Department. The information pack and an explanatory note was also circulated to all local authorities, relevant Government Departments, universities, regional technical colleges, relevant representative organisations and a number of other organisations, including private companies.
The number of proposals received under LIFE confirms that these publicity arrangements were fully satisfactory.
